Joan Silverstein

As a former top federal prosecutor with over 30 years’ experience in South Florida and Washington, D.C., Joan Silverstein handled and managed some of the most complex and consequential criminal matters in the nation. Joan served for eight years as Chief of the Criminal Division for the United States Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Florida, and before that served as Chief and Deputy Chief of the Economic and Environmental Crimes Section for a decade. In those roles Joan supervised hundreds of federal prosecutors and handled every type of criminal matter with a focus on complex financial fraud, including allegations of investment, healthcare, and mortgage fraud, as well as enforcement of the False Claims Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Anti-Money Laundering statutes, Bank Secrecy Act, environmental regulations and all other key financial statutes.

Joan has significant trial and litigation experience, having served as lead counsel in numerous, complex trials, including multi-week health care and financial fraud matters.

After her years as Chief of the Criminal Division, Joan was named as the Senior Litigation Counsel in the Southern District of Florida.  Joan also served as a Special Assistant to the Associate Attorney General at the Department of Justice in Washington and received the Justice Department’s prestigious Director’s Award.

Joan attended Yale University and Georgetown Law School, where she graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif.  Prior to her service at the Justice Department, she clerked for the late federal Judge Louis H. Pollack of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Joan was born and raised in South Florida where she empty-nests with her husband and two dogs.
